As practitioners and coaches, we use physical education to motivate students and athletes to improve performance and game understanding, to develop healthy lifestyles, to build teams and to grow community spirit. In 2008, Vancouver will host the Fourth International Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU) conference located at the UBC campus. There will be opportunity to experience first hand why the TGfU’s learner-centered teaching approach to physical education has been growing in popularity since the 1980’s. Are you unfamiliar with TGfU? Then why not attend one of our introductory workshops? These will be hands on opportunities to explore approaches to teaching games that integrate tactical play and skill development in providing learners with a deeper and exciting understanding of games play.
