The International Conference “Water, Environment, Energy and Society” will be organized jointly by the National Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee, India and Texas A&M University, College Station, USA during January 2009 at New Delhi, India. Significant hurricane, tsunami, flood and drought events over the past two years underscore the importance of this initiative. Further the Conference’s focus on research and societal benefits will help the international community apply our understanding of the Earth’s hydrologic system to protecting human health, safety and welfare, enhancing energy security, alleviating human suffering including poverty, protecting the global environment, reducing disaster losses, and achieving sustainable development. The proposed conference is India’s contribution towards IHP-VII of the UNESCO (2008-2013).
