In the world we live in, demand for resources such as energy, raw materials and water is rising steeply in both developed and developing countries.

Dependence on fossil fuels for energy is certain to continue for the foreseeable future.

To meet this demand, we shall have to increasingly explore for and develop oil and gas in difficult and remote locations and produce unconventional resources that potentially have higher CO2 footprints. At the same time, we must continue to develop technologies for renewable resources.

Against this backdrop there is a rising global expectation that the energy supplied is sustainable and climate change is managed.

This rapidly changing and challenging business environment requires us to find a balance between traditional and new approaches: conventional oil and gas along with deep and tight gas, more unconventional resources and renewable resources and at the same time, finding innovative solutions to control greenhouse gas emissions.
