Highlights

The VIth "STRANSKI-KAISCHEW" workshop "Nanophenomena at Surfaces: Fundamentals of Exotic Condensed Matter Properties" will present the latest development of both theory and experiment in the field of phase transitions and crystal growth at surfaces and interfaces and will focuse on the processes at atomic scale . In contrast to other more applied nanoscale physics meetings, the VIth SK-SSW 2008 will follow the trend devoted to the "fundamentals of nano" as already settled in the former meetings.

The topic of the workshop includes self organization phenomena on surfaces and interfaces, atomic scale manipulation of nano objects, computer simulations in nanoscale condensed and soft matter physics, catalyst modelling and characterization. Special attention will be paid to studies acting as a bridge between "classical" and "nano" concepts. The program of the meeting includes invited lectures, oral and poster presentations, round table discussions (frontiers of "nano" models), scientific film sessions (computer simulations and real experiments). The SK-SSW 2008 will also pay tribute to Prof. R. Kaischew, founder of the Institute of Physical Chemistry, and up to 2002 scientific doyen of this series of meetings, on the occasion of his 100th anniversary. Professor Rostislaw Kaischew played along with Professor Ivan Stranski a crucial role in the last century in setting up the theoretical fundamentals of nucleation and crystal growth phenomena.
