GoingToMeet

A multidisciplinary conference on the science of imaging and data visualisation organised by the Institute of Physics.

Imaging and data visualisation have become the cornerstones of all branches of modern science from astronomy, through seismology, meteorology and medical imaging to optical and electron microscopy. The ability of the human eye and brain to easily assimilate information presented as images means that visualisation is also important in scientific disciplines not traditionally concerned with imaging. Each area has developed its own solutions to specific challenges and the aim of this special conference is to provide a format in which experts and non-experts alike, from a wide range of backgrounds can exchange ideas and methods in image capture, image analysis and data presentation. The overall theme of the meeting is “how to maximise scientific understanding from data through visual representation and analysis”. A series of high profile keynote speakers, covering a wide range of topics will aim to stimulate ideas and multidisciplinary activity. In addition a poster session will take place with brief oral summaries of each poster. With the broad range of topics to be discussed the meeting is open to all who wish to gain a deeper insight into some aspect of fundamental science through the use, and analysis, of images and graphical data.
