Singapore Expo Hall 3, Singapore City, Singapore

The World Cuisines Show 2008 (WCS’08), to be staged in Singapore from July 25-27, 2008, is a global marketplace where countries around the world gather under one roof to showcase their cuisines and cultural activities. National tourism authorities from more than 130 countries have been invited to participate in this inaugural international show.

Globally, gastronomic tourism is coming up as a form of special interest tourism in which food and beverages are the main motivating factors for travel to a desired destination. Studies have shown that food plays an important part in the holiday experience of everyone, consciously or unconsciously.

Tourism authorities around the world are realizing the potential of gastronomic tourism as a powerful tool to identify and promote places, regions or entire countries.

Global trends have identified that gastronomic tourists are looking for a more participatory style of holiday experience, which satisfies their interest in food and beverages and contributes to their personal development and social status or ‘cultural capital’. There is a shift from ‘passive observation’ towards ‘interactive involvement’, whereby the visitor comes into close contact with locals and their way of life.

ISTEC 2008: Integration of Simulation Technology into the Engineering Curriculum
Jul 25, 2008 - Jul 26, 2008,
Statler Hotel, Cornell University, Ithaca, New York United States

This workshop will bring together engineering educators and practitioners to:

> Share curriculum materials, best practices and innovative strategies to integrate industrial-strength simulation technology into the engineering curriculum.
> Discuss and learn how to design and implement modular curriculum materials that can be integrated into existing courses.
> Explore outstanding issues for further research on how simulation technology impacts teaching and learning.

In order to make simulation an integral part of the engineering educational experience, the workshop seeks to build a community of educators and practitioners collaborating on the deployment of simulation in the curriculum. This will help us move beyond the current situation where the deployment of simulation is primarily done by individual faculty in their respective courses without the widespread sharing and standardization of materials. A wiki-based website will be unveiled at the workshop to facilitate the creation of online learning modules, sharing of curriculum materials and collaboration. The workshop seeks to initiate evolution of this website into a comprehensive online learning system for engineering simulation.
