2nd International Junior Researcher and Engineer Workshop
Jul 30, 2008 - Aug 1, 2008,
Aula Magna, Faculty of Engineering, University of Pisa, Pisa, Toscana Italy

The 2nd International Junior Researcher and Engineer Workshop on Hydraulic Structures (IJREWHS’08) is to provide an opportunity for young researchers and engineers (typically post graduate students, but also young researchers and engineers in both public and private sectors) to present ideas, plans, and preliminary results of their own research in an inspiring, friendly, co-operative, and non-competitive environment. To reach that purpose, the local organizing committee will organise a call for papers, with a peer-review process to be undertaken by the International Scientific Committee. All the papers must have a Junior co-Author that will present and discuss the work at the conference.
The workshop sessions will be chaired by the junior participants, who will play a major role in preparing reports and identifying key scientific elements and pending questions for all sessions. Therefore, the main goal is to learn from and help each other in solving scientific and engineering problems.

ER2008. Epigenetic Robotics 2008.
Jul 30, 2008 - Jul 31, 2008,
University of Sussex, Brighton, England, United Kingdom

The particular focus of this theme is on the dynamic interplay between ontogeny and phylogeny. In other words, how do new abilities and skills that emerge during development influence the path of evolution, and how do subsequent evolutionary changes help to create new developmental trajectories? This is a question that fits well within the mission of epigenetic robotics, as it spans not only a wide range of research areas and academic disciplines (e.g., biology, psychology, AI and machine learning, linguistics, anthropology, etc.) but also a broad spectrum of spatial and temporal scales (e.g., neurons, brains, social communities, cultures, etc.).

We are especially interested in submissions that will enhance the emerging dialog between evolutionary and developmental perspectives. Relevant topics include, but are not limited to:

* Artificial embryology
* Morphogenesis, differentiation, and regulation
* Behavioral inheritance and social learning
* The evolution of language acquisition
* Phylogenetic constraints on perceptual processing (e.g., face perception)
* Neuroplasticity and the evolution of cognition
* Evolutionary influences on mother-infant bonding
* Modularity of mind (evolutionary constraints on neural processing)
* Tool-use and problem-solving in humans, non-human primates, and machines

The incidence of autism spectrum disorders is alarming. Autism spectrum disorders are now a medical epidemic. Intervention strategies are more important than ever for providing supports to our students so that they may become productive citizens and/or to provide for an enriched quality of life. This three-day workshop provides an in-depth look at practical strategies that can be implemented in a self-contained classroom for students with developmental disabilities. Objectives

As a result of this workshop, participants will:

• Pinpoint behaviors that are manifestations of autism spectrum disorders
• Identify physical structures, schedules, visual structures, tasks and work systems needed in scenarios based on real situations in the classroom and home
• Set up communication systems changing form, function, content and context based on individual needs
• Apply what has been learned to scenarios and real-life situations using examples from sensory integration discussion
• Devise solutions for behaviors based on communication, sensory, and structured teaching interventions
• Determine when to use Social Stories™, Power Cards, t-charts, and other visual strategies appropriately

In this backdrop, The Economic Times is organizing a day-long Conference called “Realty Convention 2008”, an interactive Dialogue on the Indian Realty scenario with a special emphasis on sectoral opportunities in the projected Regulatory framework on 30 July 2008 at Hotel ITC Maurya Sheraton, in New Delhi.
