4th World Congress for Software Quality
Sep 15, 2008 - Sep 18, 2008,
Hyatt Regency, Bethesda, Maryland United States

After the huge success of the 3rd World Congress for Software Quality, the hosting organizations, American Society for Quality (ASQ), Union of Japanese Scientists and Engineers (JUSE) and the European Organization for Quality (EOQ) have decided to organize the next event of this series, in Washingtion D.C., already in 2008. Before, the conferences followed a five year turn. After San Francisco in 1995, Yokohama in 2000 and Munich in September of this year, the Congress will be returning to the continent of its origin.

The idea to follow a three year instead of a five year turn was first brought up by iSQI general manager and EOQ-SG General Secretary, Stephan Goericke, who argued that a five year turn would be too long to catch up on the progress and experiences made with technologies and processes that were subject to discussion at the preceding congress.

At the organizing committee meeting, Goericke gave an account of his experience with organizing this event, pointed out the opportunities it opened up and offered iSQI's full support to helping the American local organizing committee.

2008 Canadian Decentralized Energy Conference
Sep 15, 2008 - Sep 16, 2008,
Calgary Telus Convention Centre 120 – 9 Avenue SE Calgary, Alberta Canada

Canada’s energy industry is transitioning into a balanced supply mix of centralized and decentralized energy (DE). DE is energy generation at or near the point of use, irrespective of size, technology or fuel used - both off-grid and on-grid. DE brings improved efficiency through reduced line losses and thermal efficiency gains. However, to reach its maximum potential, the DE industry must be supported by up-to-date energy management solutions. Energy policy and regulation along with grid integration are two primary areas of concern. They affect all industry stakeholders and several aspects of the value chain (i.e., utilities, independent power producers, governments, regulators, manufacturers, housing industry).

Aqua Culture Europe 2008
Sep 15, 2008 - Sep 18, 2008,
Krakow Convention Centre, Krakow, Poland

AE2008 is the second of the "new format‟ Aquaculture Europe events, that combines a scientific conference with a trade exhibition. As always, various social events will be a part of the Aquaculture Europe meeting.

The theme of AE2008, Resource Management, addresses the natural, human and material resources for the sustainable development of aquaculture. The Water Framework Directive (2000/60/E) is the most substantial piece of water legislation ever produced by the European Commission. It requires that all inland and coastal waters within defined river basin districts must reach at least good status by 2015 and defines how this should be achieved through the establishment of environmental objectives and ecological targets for surface waters. This will be just one focus of AE2008.

International Conference on Water and Urban Development Paradigm
Sep 15, 2008 - Sep 19, 2008,
Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Leuven, Belgium

This international conference intends to bridge the gap between the disciplines of water management, ecology and the approaches of engineering, urban design and spatial planning. Sessions will develop a series of themes, discussing the historical relationship between water systems and human settlements, and related management problems regarding urban floods, water use and water sanitation. In each session, presentations are invited on problem definition, technical and design-based solutions, but also on boundary conditions of exogenous, political or economical nature. It is hoped that this interdisciplinary information exchange and communication will lead to discussion and will contribute to a better integration of approaches currently considered in the separate disciplines of water management, water engineering, spatial urban planning and design and aquatic ecology. Also aspects of meteorological, demographic, political, economical, and educational and life-style related nature will be considered in the analysis of solutions to current and emerging urban water problems. This on the longer term might lead to new paradigms in managing water in the urban environment.

Hydro Predict 2008
Sep 15, 2008 - Sep 18, 2008,
Olympik Tristar Hotel, Prague, Capital City, Czech Republic

The HydroPredict’2008 conference encourages those concerned with data collection, theory and conceptual models to work together to improve model predictions. It is proposed that this goal can be best served when data are collected in a hypothesis-testing framework.

Predictions produced using mathematical models have become a critical part of water resources management as hydrological and ecological systems have been increasingly affected by human demands. Commonly, we attempt to make predictions to address question such as these:
# When, where, and how much surface water can be taken from a river (directly or by extracting groundwater that serves as base flow) without causing unacceptable damage to wetland, riverine, estuarine, and terrestrial ecosystems?
# What strategies can be employed to extract groundwater without causing saltwater intrusion?
# What are the hydrological conditions required for optimal functioning of a wetland ecosystem – including hydroperiod, nutrient, and salinity regimes?
# Will global climate change diminish water supply that is currently essential to producing food in certain regions?

Sep 15, 2008 - Sep 18, 2008,
Radisson SAS Beke Hotel Budapest Hungary

Although fixed and mobile number portability has been fully implemented in most Western European countries for some time, by contrast a number of Eastern European countries, parts of the Middle East, Asia, South America and Africa are currently in the process of planning or implementation.

This conference will allow both those who are still implementing NP to hear best practice experiences of successful implementation, together with pitfalls to avoid and winning strategies to emulate. Operators and regulators from countries with well established NP can learn how they too can refine existing systems and ensure they meet the porting challenges presented by NGN networks and the move towards central reference databases.

This is the only conference in Europe specialising in meeting the unique challenges of Number Portability. Key points will be illustrated by relevant case studies from those countries that have recently implemented, such as Israel, and from those currently implementing such as Serbia, as well as expert presentations from operators and regulators throughout the world.
