6th Annual Conference on Privacy, Security and Trust
    Oct 1, 2008 - Oct 3, 2008,
Delta Fredericton Fredericton, New Brunswick Canada

The annual Privacy, Security and Trust research conference has quickly established itself as a leading forum for the presentation and discussion of the latest challenges and solutions covering a wide range of PST topics. The PST conference is unique in its broad approach including examining the issues from both the research and practice perspectives, encouraging multidisciplinary research, and fostering collaboration between academe, the private sector and government.
The theme for PST2008 is “privacy, security and trust - enabling innovation”. Today new technologies and new applications will not be widely adopted until it can be demonstrated that the security of the underlying ICT infrastructure and the privacy of information being processed are both protected. Only then will users trust and therefore use these innovations and then, and only then, will the developers and society as a whole reap the benefits of the innovation. Without breakthroughs in PST technology the “bad guys” will continue to thwart our best efforts to convince the public that cyber space is a safe place to do business. PST2008 provides a forum for researchers world wide to unveil their work in PST and to show how we can use this work to enable innovation and keep ahead of the “dark side” of the Internet.
The PST2008 conference will present a stimulating mix of keynote speakers, research papers, workshops, panel discussions and social events,

Human Factors in Health and Safety
    Oct 1, 2008 - Oct 2, 2008,
Crowne Plaza Amsterdam Schipol Hotel, Schipol, Amsterdam, Noord Holland Netherlands

There is an increasing emphasis on the importance of managing ‘human factors’ to achieve improved safety and business performance in the chemical process industries. Major accidents, including those at Texas City and Buncefield, have once again highlighted the importance of addressing this aspect of performance. However, many of the safety and operational professionals charged with managing human factors have no formal qualifications or training in the behavioural sciences.

To help address this gap, The Keil Centre and IChemE have organised this 2-year development programme. It builds upon the needsidentified in the process industries, namely:

    • content covering human factors in process safety, health and safety generally, with links to other aspects of business performance;
    • a modular course design, with short residential events spread over time, also providing
networking opportunities with like-minded professionals; and
•consultancy skills development to help implement human factors solution

Accelerated Carbonation for Environmental and Materials Engineering
    Oct 1, 2008 - Oct 3, 2008,
Cloister Hall-Faculty of Engineering,University of Rome "La Sapienza" Rome, Italy

The aim of the second edition of this conference series is to provide a forum for discussion of the latest advances in the field of theoretical and applied research on accelerated carbonation of various types of natural materials and industrial residues. Assessing the conditions and limits for applicability of the accelerated carbonation process as a CO2 capture and storage technique at demonstration and full scale will be one major focus of the conference. The effects of accelerated carbonation on the engineering and environmental properties of such materials will also be a specific matter of concern. Following the first edition which was held at the Royal Society in London, UK, in June 2006, this conference aims at promoting research and development activities on accelerated carbonation at an international level, favoring the share of knowledge on the title subject and critically discussing future development and implementation in the field.

    Umanned Aircraft Systems West Conference
    Oct 1, 2008 - Oct 2, 2008,
Caesars Palace Hotel & Casino Las Vegas, Nevada United States

Right now, billions of dollars are pouring into Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) development as the DoD’s need for new and inventive unmanned aircraft and payloads is nowhere close to being satisfied. New missions are continually being developed for this growing technology as new threats and obstacles are constantly being realized in these ever-changing times, both home and abroad. Persistent ISR continues to evolve and be an indispensable advantage to combatant commanders while smaller UAS ISR systems are being continually refined to excel at the tactical level. And while UAS national airspace integration comes closer to fruition, missions and system capabilities are being developed for homeland defense needs. These expanded roles for UASs bring forth a breadth of opportunities for UAS development as critical capability gaps will need to be filled.

This timely conference examines those gaps and covers the broad range of UAS platforms, missions and payload opportunities.
