- 2nd Annual Lean Six Sigma for Electronics
-
Oct 6, 2008 - Oct 7, 2008,
San Jose, California United StatesThe highly competitive electronics industry has seen many rigorous continuous improvement programs designed to help optimize internal and external performance. Lean and Six Sigma currently top the list even despite some organizations’ insistence that these programs are sometimes packaged as “old wine in new bottles”. Lean and Six Sigma have been the drivers of huge reductions of waste and quality improvements across the electronics industry. Building on the foundation of last year’s conference, the 2nd Annual Lean and Six Sigma for Electronics Conference goes beyond the discussion of basic successes and challenges. This conference will allow Lean Six Sigma practitioners to benchmark best practices, share tactics for overcoming challenges and add to their “bag of tools” for closing quality gaps. Encompassing the divide from contract manufacturer to OEM, the conference will help companies to stay abreast of industry best practices and give attendees the platform to stake claim as industry leaders.

- Drug Repositioning 2008
-
Oct 6, 2008 - Oct 7, 2008,
Hyatt Harborside Boston, Massachusetts United StatesDrug repositioning efforts create alternative development routes for compounds that failed to meet their clinical endpoint but met safety milestones. Repositioning approaches can also be employed for existing drugs to identify alternative uses or new indications. This can involve screening a compound against new targets, or investigating a given target against new indications. Repurposing or repositioning represents both a faster and less risky route to development. A discussion of how to gain access to data, and overcome organizational boundaries will be covered. Case studies that best utilize available technologies to form a comprehensive picture of a compound or target’s potential value will be explored, and will shed light on how to exploit repositioning towards unmet medical need and expanding the drug pipeline.
Topics to be covered include:
* Technology Options
* Phenotypic screening of compounds
* Molecular profiling to find new indications
* Reformulation to facilitate use in new indications
* Genetic profiling to stratify patient populations for existing compounds
* Mining literature for novel indications
* Gaining access to compound data for repurposing
* Case studies of repositioning approaches

- Mobile Monday Payments and Banking
-
Oct 6, 2008 - Oct 6, 2008,
EPFL School of Life Sciences Lausanne, Switzerland 1015Join the Discussion
Is now the right time to launch payment or banking with mobile? Mass-market deployment in Japan and Korea and emerging markets have happened. Shifts are changing the game, including secure application environments, new forms of access.
But how do you manage money on mobile? You need a value chain of merchants and payers. You need secure transactions. You need universal usability. Many in the industry are still skeptical of mobile money’s promise. They want scale, simplicity and ways to measure success — all of which are underdeveloped right now in mobile platforms. What are the main approaches to success? NFC application to transportation, micro-payment and money transfers, full mobile banking ? Attend this important event October 6th.

- 8thTraining Course in the Physics of Strongly Correlated Systems
-
Oct 6, 2008 - Oct 17, 2008,
IASS, Vietri sul Mare,, Campania ItalyExperimental and theoretical research in the physics of strongly correlated electron systems has been growing more and more in the last few years. The complexity of the problem of correlations in electronic systems makes the field intrinsically interdisciplinary, requiring an international coordination for the achievement of reliable results. The School, which is aimed at graduate and PostDoc researchers, will offer the possibility to meet, in one setting, various experts from different physics areas, all relevant to the investigation of strongly correlated electron systems. The proposed project of practical training courses intends to promote the theoretical research in the field of highly correlated electron systems by putting together senior researchers with an outstanding experience and young researchers.
The course will be opened to a limited number (30) of young (aged under 35) researchers. The registration fee, which cannot be absolutely waived, will be Euro 350. The staying expenses (accommodation and meals costs) will be of the order of Euro 1100. A significant number of grants to cover the staying expenses will be assigned, upon request, to accepted participants. - full details
