Imaging to Understanding: Insight Through Visualisation
    Dec 17, 2008 - Dec 18, 2008,
Village Hotel Nottingham, England United Kingdom

A multidisciplinary conference on the science of imaging and data visualisation organised by the Institute of Physics.

Imaging and data visualisation have become the cornerstones of all branches of modern science from astronomy, through seismology, meteorology and medical imaging to optical and electron microscopy. The ability of the human eye and brain to easily assimilate information presented as images means that visualisation is also important in scientific disciplines not traditionally concerned with imaging. Each area has developed its own solutions to specific challenges and the aim of this special conference is to provide a format in which experts and non-experts alike, from a wide range of backgrounds can exchange ideas and methods in image capture, image analysis and data presentation. The overall theme of the meeting is “how to maximise scientific understanding from data through visual representation and analysis”. A series of high profile keynote speakers, covering a wide range of topics will aim to stimulate ideas and multidisciplinary activity. In addition a poster session will take place with brief oral summaries of each poster. With the broad range of topics to be discussed the meeting is open to all who wish to gain a deeper insight into some aspect of fundamental science through the use, and analysis, of images and graphical data.

The Art and Science of Study Participant / Patient Recruitment: Methods to meet study Goals
    Dec 17, 2008 - Dec 17, 2008,
ONLINE Palo Alto, California United States 94303

This webinar will provide invaluable assistance to investigators and their staff in the regulatory / legal responsibilities and also the ethical considerations in pharmaceutical product (Drug or device) research involving human subjects.

    Description
The ability to bring in (recruit) study participants whether they be ‘normal healthy adults” or patients with the condition being studied is essential for a CRO, a site, a CPU/CRU for conducting study starts with the full complement of volunteers. For this reason the recruiting process is a top priority of those in management including the PI. The challenges are many but, in the end, it is following the logical steps of the recruitment process that is paramount to a full and on time study start. First a plan must be developed for each study based on the particular protocol at hand. Second, a strategy must be chosen based on resources’ available and the usual barriers from a complex protocol to study participant mistrust of research. Then the plan of how you are going to reach potential volunteers must be implemented. This is easier said than done. Finally one must be continuously watchful and track the results continuously.

    Areas Covered in the seminar:

    • How to define the recruitment process.
    • The main challenges of recruiting Subjects.
    • Reasons participation is not as easy as one would think.
    • The factors reducing volunteer willingness to participate.
    • The reasons recruiting Subjects is critical to success.
    • The four major steps in the recruiting process.
